Description

To visualize where 30mm fits among other common focal lengths, I'll borrow an example from the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD Lens review.

A full extent focus distance change requires over four full rotations (1640°) if turning the focus ring slowly. Now let’s return to the Sigma sample at f1.4, before heading into the far corner where there’s some of the usual darkening due to vignetting, but on the whole respectably sharp details. I’ll keep the Sigma on the left at f1.4 and compare it against the Sony 24 at f1.8 on the right, showing a slightly different part of the pier due to its slightly longer focal length.Optionally use ISO 50 if your camera provides this setting, though the dynamic range may be impacted.

Thanks to the smaller APS-C image circle requirement combined with this design, this lens is small, light, and reasonably priced. Right now for sharpness across the frame with a distant subject, and as always I’ve angled the view so that details run into the corners. I’ll start with Brighton Pier, photographed with the XF 33 1.4, here wide-open at f1.4 and when you take a close look in the middle the lens is resolving a tremendous amount of fine detail, as you’d hope for its age and price. Now let’s compare the Sony 24 at f1.8 where it looks a little faster overall in Single AFS mode, mostly due to less of a wobble to confirm. Meanwhile switching to continuous AFC mode speeds-up the process and eliminates the wobble again due to the AF system exploiting the phase-detect system. in full-frame equivalent) is a very popular focal length among all others. And then, Sigma comes with this 30mm, and this is an interesting focal length to compete with many 35mm lenses in the Fuji market. It also sits right between the 27mm and 33mm of what Fujifilm has offered.

These lenses share the advantages of a smaller image circle, including reduced cost, decreased size, and a lower price. This lens shows only a gradual decline, with stopped-down improvements mirroring the center of the frame benefit.

In stills terms, though, there's little real-world difference between the Sigma's 45mm equivalent view and the 52.5mm equivalent of the Sony. The difference between them doesn't suddenly open one up to a type of photography that couldn't be achieved with the other. So Fujifilm’s latest standard prime lens is the most expensive of its siblings and in this review I’ll show you what it’s capable of, make some direct comparisons against the compact XF 35mm f2, and ultimately help you decide if it justifies the asking price. The metal barrel is rugged and also features a large durable rubberized focus ring. This gives me a firm place to grip the lens and get steady images.
