Description

Some apparel from the 1990s removed the word "Die", having the title instead read "Say Cheese And...". This would be amended for apparel released in the 2000s and beyond.

This is the second Say Cheese and Die book where the protagonist has a skeleton photo nightmare, but is the first one not to be told in the past tense. The camera appears in Goosebumps: The Game. There is also an in-game achievement named "Say Cheese--Again!", which can be earned by taking pictures of all the monsters with the haunted camera. The pranksters Duane and Stephanie love to visit Hill House, a place said to be haunted by a ghost of a young boy who was decapitated by an evil sea captain. One night, they decide to go to the house after it closes to find the boy's head, but actually end up encountering the headless ghost as well as a few other restless spirits. The series also stars Justin Long —who becomes possessed by a dark entity around the 40-second mark of the trailer —and Rachael Harris. Goosebumps will stream on Disney+ and Hulu starting, appropriately enough, on Friday, Oct. 13, with five episodes. The first two will also air on Disney’s cable channel Freeform as part of its 31 Days of Halloween programming.

The initial description of Greg's photo of him fat is toned down, removing various specific details and comparisons to a balloon. Things like this are changed throughout the book, and fatter is replaced with "bigger" in various places, and mentions of diets, chins, flab, etc. are removed. Out on a day trip, the Morris family get lost on their way to Zoo Gardens and end up in a theme park called Horrorland which is run by monsters called Horrors. After Reena leaves, Julie remembers that she must take photos of a school basketball game. At the basketball game, Julie uses her Polaroid camera to take a photo of one of the players, Karla Mayer. When the photo develops, Julie sees only Karla's arm and not the rest of her body. Karla jumps, preparing to make a layup, but her arm bends at a very unnatural angle. Karla falls to the floor and begins screaming. The game is ended, and Karla is taken away. Julie runs into David, and David takes Julie's Polaroid and takes a photo of her with it. The photo becomes jammed inside of Julie's camera and doesn't fall out. Julie then feels an immense pain and doubles over. Julie deduces that the camera is causing her pain, so she has to remove her photo from the camera. Once Julie removes the photo, she starts to feel better. Julie runs away and goes home. Julie hides the Polaroid camera in her room and calls Reena. Reena says that her eyes are still red and that she no longer wants to be friends with Julie. Comic book addict Bradley Skipper Matthews finds out his favorite comic book supervillain the Masked Mutant is real, but a visit through the lair has Skipper losing his grip on reality after seeing comic book panels with himself as the hero. The party gets into full swing, but is interrupted by Mr. Bratt, the new owner of the house who shuts down the party. The kids flee in all directions, with Allison ending up running into the woods, where she runs into a mysterious and very creepy figure.

The Sadler siblings Jerry and Terri try to solve the mystery of the ghostly resident living in a mountain cave near the beach.

Later that day, Isaiah and James head to the basketball court, and Isiah enters with the entire football team and riles the crowd up with a speech. Mid-speech, Lucas tries to hit Isabella. Just then, Allison arrives, showing them her party invitation edited by a troll. Julie has a plan to destroy the evil camera; make the camera take a photo of itself using a mirror. Julie places the evil camera in front of a mirror and uses a coat hanger to push the camera's shutter button. When the photo develops, Julie sees that the camera has duplicated itself.I think R.L. Stine did the world a great service by introducing horror books to children. Children love horror; they love being scared. But only a bit scared - these books are great at being genuinely frightening, but not scarring. Isaiah is able to save her in time thanks to seeing the picture of her dying and going looking for her.Isaiah tries to show James the haunted camera, but when anybody other than Isaiah looks at the pictures, they appear blank.

While on a road trip with their parents, Wendy and her brother Elliot get inside their parents' trailer and crash into a sports camp called King Jellyjam's Sports Camp. The 2 decide to stay and participate in the activities until their parents can come for them, but while Elliot is enjoying the competitive spirit, Wendy finds it all too bizarre especially when the winners end up missing, one of the counselors survives a bone-crushing hit to his chest, everyone is disappointed in Wendy who is not sharing their obsessive competitive spirit, and the ground begins to shake at night. I have no qualms in stating that because this book presented such a duality with its antagonist & with the garish item of the camera that it left me feeling glad to see such pointed writing play out for all ages. I am a firm believer that a good book is, a good book & that all readers deserve to come upon stories that are well-thought-out & well-written. Stine is a wonder at his craft. Though there were times when some of the actions of the younger characters were quite annoying—Shari essentially bullying Greg into bringing the haunted camera—I could understand that this was the essence of the 90s writing style. The opening feels like a pretty traditional teenage horror setup. Scary enough to work on Hulu, but nice enough that it can still air on Disney+ as well. As a thank you for helping him out, Isaiah invites Margot to the party, much to the displeasure of Allison. As they’re setting up for the party, the teenagers discover a way into the basement of the house, a room that’s been closed off since the fire.

MUST READ

The new Goosebumps show opens with a prologue 30 years in the past, set in 1993. Teenager Harold comes home to his basement where he walks past several different items that serve as great Easter eggs, if you know a whole bunch of Goosebumps books. Later that day, Isaiah walks in on his parents quarrelling about whether they can rely on Isaiah’s potential to get the scholarship. He sits grumpily and Margot comes to cheer him up. He requests her to help him with answers for the test to which she reluctantly agrees. The movie series made the books’ author, R.L. Stine, a main character to try and connect the books together. This series, for the first time, seems to be trying to actually bring the most famous elements from the series together into the same story. In the small town of Pitts Landing, Greg Banks is in his English class and is called upon by his English teacher, Mr. Saur, to give a report about what he did during the summer. Mr. Saur is a strict teacher who never laughs and is referred to as "Sour Ball" by Greg and his friends. Greg describes what happened to him last summer with the evil camera, but Mr. Saur believes the story is false and gives Greg an "F" on the assignment. Greg insists his story is true, so Mr. Saur challenges Greg to present the camera. Greg's parents won't let him visit his cousins in the summer if he flunks his report, so he's desperate to prove his story's validity. The next day, Julie receives word that she won the photo contest, but Julie is still worried because Sammy had to be taken to the hospital. Julie has to go to school to take a photo of all of the students from atop the diving board. Julie is worried that she will fall off of the diving board as her photo depicted. Julie has to let David take the big photo. If Julie doesn't fall, she assumes that she will defeat the camera. David takes several photos, and prepares to climb down from the diving board. He slips and is about to fall, but he manages to hold onto the side of the diving board. Julie climbs up onto the diving board and tries to help David. Julie almost falls, but David catches her. Julie rushes home and finds out that all of the photos from the evil camera now looked normal. By not falling, Julie had defeated the camera. Julie gets a phone call from her mother, and Julie's mother tells Julie that Sammy has suddenly been healed.
