These wines feature appealing fresh fruit aromas, and complexity on the palate enhanced by ten months’ aging in French oak and six months’ in bottle. The grapes for Kaiken Reserve Malbec are sourced from Kaiken‘s Agrelo vineyard, most of the vines were planted before 1970. The high degree of development achieved by viticulture, added to new research promoted by a generation of restless producers, has led to the identification of micro-regions with different terroirs, reflecting the diverse character of Argentine viticulture. It is specifically in Malbec where this quality is best appreciated. The territory of Mendoza can be divided into five large sub-regions, which give the varieties their particular characteristics: Valle de Uco, integrated by the departments of Tunuyán, Tupungato and San Carlos; Primera Zona, which includes the departments of Luján de Cuyo and Maipú; the Northern oasis (Lavalle and Las Heras), the East (San Martín, Rivadavia, Junín, Santa Rosa and La Paz) and the South (San Rafael, Malargüe and General Alvear), covering practically the entire provincial geography. The palate is smooth, with well-balanced acidity, round and elegant tannins and a medium-long finish. Place the ribs on the hot grate above the drip pan and away from the coals, bony side down. Cover and grill for 30 minutes. Spray the ribs with sherry.

Not surprisingly, this particular wine and vintage is rated over 90 points by several industy publications.

Per the tasting notes I received with this wine, fruit was sourced from the Uco Valley. Three different vineyards were selected as sources due to their individual characteristics and superior terroirs. Originally planting the variety in secret from his father, it was through experimentation that Aurelio Montes Junior discovered that the Uco Valley’s high-altitude vineyards were well suited to growing Cabernet Franc. Aurelio Junior has pioneered this variety in Argentina and, together with a handful of other winemakers, has highlighted the country’s potential to produce top quality Cabernet Franc. ‘Obertura’ displays an intense and complex nose, with fresh redcurrants, plums, and some spicy notes of pepper and clove.

Kaiken suggests serving this Malbec “with casseroles or not too elaborate red meat dishes, or just enjoy with ripe cheese.” There is a nice dryness all over the palate from the tannins that balances very well with the wine’s flavors. Finish Kaiken Winery is located in the district of Vistalba and relies on state-of-the-art technology. All of its wines are made with grapes sourced from estates distributed across the very best winemaking areas in the provinces of Mendoza (such as Vistalba, Agrelo and Vista Flores) and Salta (Cafayate). Ageing potential: The wine is ready to be enjoyed now but has the intensity and structure to age for the next decade.string(1821) "In the centre west of the territory, at the foot of the Andes mountain range, Mendoza holds 75% of the total vineyards in Argentina and the largest number of wineries in the country. This makes it the most important wine province and one of the main producing centres in the world. The Gualtallary Vineyard is planted on poor calcareous soils with Malbec, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir at 4,265 metres. This is one of the highest areas in Mendoza, where the ultra-cool climate makes intense, extremely elegant wines. The 2018 is deep red in colour, with violet tones. On the nose, it displays fruity aromas of plum and cherry combined with spicy notes of tobacco and cinnamon. An elegant and complex wine, with soft tannins and a long lingering finish. On the palate, Kaiken's Malbec starts pleasantly dry, grippy and aromatic. Some wines are dry on the label, others really are. This red wine is one of the latter, as it was bottled with only 1.8 grams of residual sugar. On the tongue, this well-balanced red wine is characterized by an incredibly dense texture. Due to its concise fruit acid, the Kaiken Malbec is impressively fresh and lively on the palate. The final of this youthful red wine from the wine-growing region of Mendoza finally captivates with considerable reverberation. Vinification of the Kaiken Kaiken Malbec For the salad, place the soy sauce, ginger, chilli, garlic, lemon juice, fish sauce and sugar in a bowl and whisk to combine.

When the glass is tipped this wine really coats it up! Slow falling legs then form and glide down the sides of the glass. Aroma Agrelo is at an altitude of 950m and has alluvial soil thanks to the erosion of the Andes, producing ripe, good bodied reds. The highest peaks of the Andes are found in Mendoza: with 22.832 ft, Aconcagua is the highest peak in America. The presence of the Andes, which act as a barrier to the humid winds of the Pacific, added to the distance to the Atlantic Ocean, shape the climate generating ideal conditions for the cultivation of vines. The altitude, continental climate, heterogeneity of soils and the snowmelt are key factors for the production of excellent wines, which add to a significant winemaking tradition.
