Description

The beer has an aroma of tropical fruit, spicy hops, a touch of vanilla and honeyed malt. There’s a big punch of fruit – melon and pink grapefruit – on the palate with honeyed malt and a touch of spice. The finish is hoppy and bitter but well balanced by fruit and malt and is pleasantly refreshing.

Unlike other West Coast IPAs, Western Zeph is 100% British and brewed with English malts and hops, to create a bold, flavourful, punchy beer of medium-high body which is high in bitterness but has an underlying sweetness. The awards land just ahead of the first anniversary of the launch of the brewer’s craft beers, Level Head, a session IPA (4% ABV), and Flint Eye, a dry hopped lager (4.5% ABV), which were launched in July last year. Greene King has been awarded its first medals for its recently launched craft beers, Flint Eye and Level Head, and also Ice Breaker Pale Ale at the Bartenders’ Brand Awards this year. Light in body, but slightly dry with a medium bitterness and pithy aftertaste, this session IPA’s name hints towards the legend of St Edmunds’ – the original patron saint of England from who Bury St Edmunds takes its name – who was beheaded by the Vikings in 869. The beers will be available on draught in selected Greene King pubs as well as in bottle. The range includes Flint Eye, a dry hopped lager named after a Neolithic flint arrow head found in the town. Western Zeph, a West Coast-style IPA is brewed with Godiva and Harlequin Hops, plus CF 184, a new hop that doesn’t yet have a name. Subterranean is an oatmeal stout based on a recipe dating from 1926 and takes its name from tunnels that once led from the local abbey to the brewery. Both of these award-winning beers are available in hundreds of pubs across the UK, so wherever you are, make sure to nominate your very own legend and treat yourself, and them of course, to a free pint!” Greene King was founded in 1799 and is headquartered in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk. It currently employs around 40,000 people across its five divisions: Local Pubs; Destination Food Brands; Premium, Urban and Venture Brands; Pub Partners; and Brewing & Brands.

Making its return as a seasonal ale, Spring Break is a 4.4% golden ale which was launched in early 2022 as a partnership with the National Brewing Apprentice Programme, called Future Brewers. Spring Break is just one of the beers that the brewer has collaborated with students, studying on the apprenticeship programme. Greene King is releasing its limited-edition Spring Break cask beer for March and April, which was created last year in collaboration with the National Brewing Apprentice Programme. The craft and heritage of these beers are what makes them unique and different from other craft beers, as we combine our centuries worth of expertise to create distinct flavours that resonate with the modern-day craft drinker. We look forward to seeing our distribution continue to grow and more and more people enjoying Level Head and Flint Eye.” Greene King Brewing and Brands will be launching its new craft beers Flint Eye and Level Head, into Tesco and Sainsbury’s this month, following a successful launch in Waitrose and Morrisons. Ice Breaker Pale Ale is currently available in over 2,000 Greene King pubs and also independent venues, as well as major supermarkets including Tesco, ASDA, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Waitrose and Ocado.Using re-imagined recipes that draw on its 200 years of brewing expertise, Greene King has created a new dry hopped lager, a session IPA, a west coast IPA, and an oatmeal stout, which have all been inspired by myths and legends from Bury St Edmunds, where they have been brewing for centuries. Greene King’s dry hopped lager, Flint Eye combines peach aromas and taste with subtle pine notes, creating a crisp and refreshing beer that has a delicate balance of flavours. Flint Eye secured all bronze medals for taste, design and value at the awards. On the nose, this deep, bitter, and intense oatmeal stout has an aroma of roasted chocolate and coffee, with hints of caramel and treacle. Level Head and Flint Eye are currently available in a number of Greene King pubs, which can be found here: https://www.greeneking-pubs.co.uk/premium-pint-finder/, and independent venues. The craft beers are also available in several major supermarket chains across the UK, including Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose, and Sainsbury’s by the end of March. An e-coupon for a free pint of either Flint Eye or Level Head will be issued, for Brits to enjoy with their legend between Friday 13th and Sunday 15th October.
