When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services. Fossora features collaborations with Serpentwithfeet and Indonesian punks Gabber Modus Operandi, as well as contributions from her son Sindri and daughter Doa. Our entry point into this eclectic underworld is ‘Atopos’, where Björk folds in her many influences and styles to totally eviscerate ideas of human connection and communication while speaking of muddy interpersonal tension. A delightful imbroglio of clarinets meets vigorous gabber eruptions, the piledriving rhythm takes over the body completely, and vocals are flung out to the farthest reaches via subterranean veins. The following ‘Ovule’ is even more multifarious, somehow distilling her entire discography into one single pop song. It’s an exegesis on love, written with esoteric philosophies and performed with anthemic brass arrangements and extraterrestrial reggaetón beats. But this album is truly as alien as its cover. It's completely unfamiliar, even in the context of Björk's discography. I have to be honest and say I rarely find myself in the mood to listen to any of the songs from this album, because they only really work when connected intricately to each other like the branching hyphae of mycelium. Even together, this album is a challenging experience; sometimes it feels like it should be listened to in a club, sometimes in a church, and always on psychedelics. I can imagine it being intensely evocative to the right listener. To me, it's unquestionable uniqueness makes it musically impressive, but it fails to strike me as something I strongly care to revisit. We've also read that the “biological techno” album is mostly around the 80-90 beats per minute mark because that is the speed she walks at.

This album had me thinking about death and the future of life while I listened. I’m not a negative person at all, but this album bought out a philosophical side I never knew I had. The thing is, this album isn’t just weird. It’s also spectacular, and I don’t mean the encompassing, watered down “spectacular” that’s used as a catch-all for music that’s really good. I mean spectacular as in this album is a spectacle. It’s a light show. It’s about as close as anyone has come to recreating one in musical form ever since Julia Holter put out her masterpiece that is Aviary

There is only one artist that can combine bass clarinet ensembles, gabber techno, and mushrooms into a pop record. Björk has consistently been one of the most exciting musical pioneers since her solo Debut almost thirty years ago. With every album comes a total reinvention: a new toybox of instruments to play with, a newly sprawling, Saga-like story to tell, and new artwork depicting the feminine archetypes of her sonic symbolism. Just when you think Björk has done it all, she once again raises the bar even higher. Her tenth album Fossora is no exception: at a milestone in her career, her prowess as a musician is stronger than ever before. I didn't have a single issue. It might have been pressed a tad off-center, but I had no distortion or any static and non-fill. These aren't heavy vinyl -- they're typical Bjork vinyls where the edge are thin sharp and smooth. One of the highlights of this album for me is the song Allow, a fantastic song inspired by folklore that makes me feel like I’m lost in a magical forest. The ambience of this song is pilter, fashionable and chic. The outro is breathtaking and ties up an already beautiful song, adding just that little bit more substance and depth. Most notorious changes in the final master are the inclusion of vocals by Sindri Eldon on "Ancestress"; vocals by Ísadóra Bjarkardóttir Barney and a cor anglais arrangement played by Matthías Birgir Nardeau on "Her Mother's House"; additional beat production by El Guincho and Sideproject (and different general production) on "Ovule"; and a filter/effect on some Björk vocals, plus additional vocals by Ican Harem of Gabber Modus Operandi on "Fossora". Mere weeks before release, Ican's vocals were removed from the digital version, so his voice can be heard only on the initial CD and cassette editions. Later CD releases feature the final master without Ican's vocals. That’s not to say I don’t vibe with it, though. The eclectic and elegant sound of fossora is made possible through stylised production, cryptic songwriting and an atypical vocal performance, easily one of Bjorks best in a while. All vinyl variants released on September 2022 contain an early master of the album, while the CD, cassette and digital editions include the final master.
