Jane and Mary are taken to court where they are offered transportation instead of hanging. They say yes and Mary does not get to say goodbye to her mother before she is taken to a ship bound for Australia. The one thing Wendy doesn't count on is that an attractive man in the bar approaches her during one of her most vulnerable times in her marriage. She loves the attention he provides and when her friend Pam calls to tell her she can't meet her, Wendy makes the mistake of leaving the bar with the man knowing the choice she makes tonight will alter her life forever. When she arrives in his apartment, she suddenly comes to grip with her moral conviction and kindly tells Curtis that she needs to go home before things go any further than simply being in his apartment. I love the modern day references in the book they make a real personal connection with the reader. I liked Audrey a lot she’s not your Bridget Jones type but she’s not some snobby biatch either. I think eight years to be engaged was slightly nuts, 2-3 years maybe would have been a bit more realistic. I wasn't happy with Daniel's daughter and her actions at a certain point and I wasn't sure what the truth of some events were. Was Daniel lying? Who knows? Expertly pulled off. It has a devious premise. DI Helen Grace is fiendishly awesome. It's scary as all hell. And it has a full cast of realistically drawn, interesting characters that make the thing read like a bullet'

I found, as usual, a couple of copy-editing misses (seems to be pretty typical in e-books), and one small but glaringly improbable scene in which Wendy, the protagonist, colors her dark hair to blonde in "a few minutes" in a public restroom. It's a minor point, but any woman who knows much about hair coloring could have told Gross that going from dark brown to blonde is a somewhat lengthy process involving bleach and toner and would be tough to do in a public restroom without a shower to rinse everything out, and in "a few minutes". Ha! These two souls end up working together to for one prove her innocence and another to free the last ones of her family before they are the ones killed as a final vendetta. Audrey has a lovely support group of friends and family which hold many keys to this story . The sub-characters themselves experience many trials and tribulations in their own lives. Some of these moments in her friends lives were quite emotive, dealing with serious issues and the author dealt with these concerns in a sensitive manner. Lauritzia escaped from Mexico and is working as a nanny for a family she loves and who love her. She is going to school and has dreams of opening her own store one day. But her dreams are shattered with a shooting in the mall and she knows the bullets were meant for her. She wants to run to protect the family but they convince her to stay so they can help her. Thriller. Wendy is a suburban mom. She gets in a fight with her husband, and plans to meet up with a girlfriend at the bar for drinks. Her friend doesn't show, and a cute man who's a great piano player starts flirting with her and buying her drinks. She's attracted to him.Mary spends the next few months in filthy Newgate Prison, wondering what will happen to her. She misses her family and is terrified she won't live to grow up and try to have a better life and have children of her own. Then her sentence is commuted to transportation to the new colony of New South Wales (present day Sydney, Australia). Mary is grateful for a chance to survive but sad she will never see England or her family again. The sea voyage is very long and Mary wonders what will await her at the end.

As the bodies start to pile up, Wendy digs into her case and discovers connections that lead her to a Mexican nanny with a dangerous past. It's a book that contains a fairly large number of characters who all had their own sub plots going on, and at times I found it slightly confusing as to who knew what about which incident, but on the whole all the various goings on added to the attraction of the book, and meant there was never a boring moment.

To clear her name, Wendy has to unravel a complicated conspiracy to runs to the highest levels of the federal government. Mary Wade a poor girl who was only ever trying to help her family seemed to be doing the wrong things, as she goes one step too far one day she finds herself given the death sentence and is put in the worst jail in England. As the King decided to trial every convict she gets an offer of a freedom of sorts; to be sent to a new scary land called New South Wales. Her long and tiresome journey on Lady Juliana is filled with its good and bad parts but though an incredibly long journey she feels the heat, the air and is being fed, getting to see new lands as they stop and having an experience she never dreamt of having. As they eventually land in Australia ready to start their new lives she finally doesn’t feel so alone. I have to say, this story did not disappoint. First of all I want to say that I warmed to Audrey, and this did not take long. She’s loyal, not one to rush into things and did all she could to guard her heart, although Dan showed no signs of danger. There’s quite a lot going on in this story with a large cast of characters, all with their own stories playing out alongside Audrey’s, and with some surprising links. Audrey begins to wonder who she can trust. There are secrets, betrayals, dramas and complications. I liked that the writer tied a true event within the story's main plot (again I don't like to give spoilers) but other than that to me there wasn't a whole lot special about it. I am afraid in time I will forget about this story altogether.
