Orion and Valentino meet in NYC on the day Death-Cast launches, falling in love and helping each other figure out which one of them will truly die that day. I know not everyone is crazy about the inclusion of these types of tiny slivers of life, but I loved them and the way it demonstrated the interconnections in general. Set at the start of Death-Cast this story follows Orion and Valentino who meet at the Death-Cast launch party - a day which will change both of their lives forever, unfortunately only one of them get out of the story with a forever. It's the night before Death-Cast goes live, and there's one question on everyone's mind: Can Death-Cast actually predict death, or is it an elaborate hoax?

Of course it is a bit instalovey, but it sort of had to be, considering the brief time-frame of the narrative. So, while this wasn't quite as powerful for me as the first book, I still really, really liked it and appreciate the characters and the heartfelt way Silvera told their stories. There are several POVs but the main two are Orion, a New Yorker living with a severe heart condition, wondering everyday if it will be his last. The story goes through several twists and turns and remains clever and surprising despite the title literally saying exactly what’s going to happen. It’s the night before Death-Cast goes live, and there’s one question on everyone’s mind: Can Death-Cast actually predict when someone will die, or is it just an elaborate hoax?

They decide, no matter how it is going to turn out, they are going to spend the next 24-hours together. I'm not sure why it took me so long to read this book from Adam Silvera, given I enjoyed a few of his other ones. As with the first book, the ending was heartbreakingly beautiful and I genuinely hope to get more tales set in the world of Death-Cast. and felt we got to see a larger amount of character development, likely due to the longer length of the book.

I understand I can change my preference through my account settings or unsubscribe directly from any marketing communications at any time. It's too long, and we could have done without some of the extraneous POVs because they didn't really add anything meaningful to the story. Valentino, with dreams of becoming a professional model, has just, as in this very day, moved to New York City.after hearing a lot of bad things about this prequel, i was scared going into it because i feared it would just be a cash grab. A bestselling American novelist, Adam Silvera is the author of the successful teen and YA books They Both Die at the End, More Happy Than Not, History Is All You Left Me, and What If It's Us. lmao i finished this masterpiece and now i’ve been staring at walls for hours just thinking about what i just read.

I knew what to expect and the "embrace your life" theme that resonated so much with me in the first book just didn't feel as fresh and meaningful here. That said, it's totally worth reading but NOTE: Even though this is a prequel, you still want to read it second. Told with acclaimed author Adam Silvera’s signature bittersweet touch, this story celebrates the lasting impact that people have on each other and proves that life is always worth living to the fullest. I get it was meant to be a sad book but i signed up for the last day of a couple/boy, not for the random bad lives of random people ALL OVER the book. just like “they both die at the end” this prequel has multiple narrators but the main ones are Orion and Valentino.Orion Pagan has waited years for someone to tell him that he's going to die, given his serious heart condition. Though neither boy is certain how the day will end, they know they want to spend it together…even if that means their goodbye will be heartbreaking.
