This tent is certainly not meant for living in as headroom is at a premium, I ended up with an achy back hunched over my stove in the offset porch as me fancying a brew and a light shower happened to coincide. I have shared the tent with my daughter on a couple of occasions for back garden camping and that worked out well. Not just to see how it goes, but to make sure all parts were shipped and no nasty surprises are waiting for you in the middle of nowhere! But, and this is a big but, you don't need to carry an additional protective groundsheet with this tent. From camping in the back garden with my children to cycle touring, this cheap and reliable tent has more than paid for itself.

Lack of familiarity with the product on my part rather than the clear instructions sown into the bag, being the reason.I don't bother separating the inner from outer when I pack it away clean, which works great if you need to erect it fast. Mine is the older design with two zips and a single large door, I can see why the changed the design to the single zip and tie back doors as the rain goes everywhere when opening the door either during or after rain. The porch area is small but does have a groundsheet, unlike some superlight tents where all your gear has to sit on the wet grass and there's nowhere to take off your shoes. This always happens when in a rush and it is starting to get dark, blowing a gale, or tipping it down! It's exceptionally easy to put up although getting the flysheet tight and keeping it clear of the inner compartment requires that (a) you don't peg it too tight at the base of the poles and (b) you get the guys halfway up the poles really, really tight.

I would suggest this as a 'starter' tent suitable for low level summer camping, (great for the younger ones). I've used this tent on wild camping trips for the last three years, and can vouch for it's quality and durability. I am 5ft 2inches and can crouch well, but found it uncomfortable to sit upright whilst sitting out a rainstorm. the tent will far from make a dramatic increase to the weight of your kit, leaving you free to concentrate on carrying plenty of other items of equipment. The moisture was building up a little on the inside of the tent, but it was building up even more on the inside of my sleeping bag LOL.It has a little pocket at the front for bits, plus a hanging loop over the doorway although kept clunking my head on that. Redesigned, the Backpacker now features windows in the front quarter panels, allowing you to enjoying the morning sun and cathedral arch poles for extra strength. Attaching the inner is pretty simple, at the foot end attach two hooks at the bottom then toggles, same with the entry end. I love the double door on the inner, not many manufacturers provide you with a full mesh door panel these days, such a nice touch on hot days when you want to keep the insects out.

With an inner made of breathable polyester, complete with fully taped seams, this tent also has a porch area for storage.One feature I love is the ability to raise the outser shell before the inner, this means you can pitch this tent in the rain without too much fuss. We have been wild camping in Dartmoor, Australia and New Zealand with 2 adults and a child (under 9 she fitted well but slight squeeze and damp at edges in rain consequently). It would be the perfect budget backpacker if it was a few inches higher at the entrance so you can sit comfortably and brew up!
