That is, even if they run out of time and the Chisel "wins," it's a good idea to let everyone keep playing until the mystery is solved—that way everyone winds up satisfied. If the Challenge is successful, the leverage marker will be placed on the suspect to be used against them for future questioning, and the Chisel will give the Detective the "most useful response".

This expansion for the narrative board game Detective: City of Angels includes 4 all-new Cases, 200 Cards to expand your investigative gameplay. I also do this in solo—if I don't solve the mystery "in time," I acknowledge that, but still let myself see the case through. The only issue with not correctly solving the case is the Detective must wait until the last day is over to try to guess again during the "Final Guess". Detective: City of Angels is an epic narrative-driven board game set in the dark and violent world of 1940s Los Angeles. Detectives can explore every shadowy corner of the City of Angels, rendered in gorgeous and authentic detail on a massive 33x21 inch game board. Challenge incorrectly, however, and you'll end up taking on stress tokens, which can shorten the amount of time you have to solve a case.

Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page. Despite missing some of the mechanics of multiplayer, Sleuth Mode is a solid way to experience the game, particularly if you’re more interested in exploring the narrative or lack a regular playgroup. By letting it be not all about me, I've had some really good gaming experiences with people who love games but don't necessarily identify as "board gamers," and to me, that is dynamite. Of course, like almost all detective board games, each case can only be solved once, so replayability is limited, but with nine mysteries in the base game and two expansions offering four more cases each, you’ll have a lot of content before the game runs dry. The Chisel will win the game if all of the detectives lose, so it is in the Chisel's best interests to misdirect the detectives as cleverly as possible.BE A SLEUTH: Most players will step into the shoes of LAPD homicide detectives, hungry for glory and willing to do whatever it takes to successfully close a case, even if that means intimidating suspects, concealing evidence, and hiring snitches to rat on their fellow detectives. The main board will be setup in the center with "scratch" (money) placed on the bottom left corner of the board, and the day marker will be placed on day 7. You might also be able to intuit our opinions on Detective: City of Angels and Kabuto Sumo… but that’s what the video reviews are for, really. The instruction manual does come with a great example of how the Chisel can make the game more exciting, and the more the Chisel gets into the theme and the excitement of those interrogations, the more fun all the players will have.

Set in the dark and violent world of 1940s Los Angeles, Detective: City of Angels is a game of mystery, deception, and investigation for 1–5 players. After the Detective hands over their investigation sheet to the Chisel, the Chisel will check to see if the Detective is correct. After just a handful of plays, DETECTIVE has skyrocketed to the top of my list of story telling games! If the Detective does not use any Leverage, the Chisel may use Leverage they have against the Detective to block their questioning. As well as some thematic script, these briefings will include important information which can give the detectives a head start in their investigation.

I think the best role to play when you break out Detective: City of Angels is the role of detective in the competitive mode. The superbly written suspect responses bring out the theme and make each character and each case feel real and unique. Detective City of Angels uses the innovative ARC (Adaptive Response Card) System to create the feel of interrogating a suspect.

Each detective will now receive an investigation sheet that they will fill out with their suspects on the left side going down and lettered case cards going across the top. Detective: CoA uses the innovative ARC (Adaptive Response Card) System to create the feel of interrogating a suspect. The tuckbox for the case is opened and all lettered case files will be placed facedown on their corresponding area on the main board. Learn how to design your own cases with our Case Design Guide then download our full Case Design Kit to bring your own case to reality! Couple these with the unique mechanics of later missions and no two games of Detective: CoA are ever the same.
