Seeing both sides of the unrest, the commoners and those who served the king, really was intriguing. Considero que la serie va in crescendo a medida que avanzamos en la tetralogía, y este sirve un poco de preámbulo a la guerra que se desencadenará en los siguientes.

Reading this book got me excited to read the nonfiction book about the War of the Roses and learn all I can. Episodios bélicos, que hay muchos, bien narrados, algunos en los siguientes libros de forma brillante, desde mi punto de vista. A NICE CLEAN AND TIGHT UK FIRST EDITION FIRST PRINT COPY OF STORMBIRD BY CONN IGGULDEN, WHICH CONN HAS VERY KINDLY SIGNED AND LINED AND PRE PUBLICATION DAY DATED TO THE TITLE PAGE. This is the England of 1454 and the beginning of the period in English history that we know today as the Wars of the Roses. Apparently, Henry, Edward, and Richard were the in-vogue names for 15th Century English nobility, making lineage a bit tricky to follow. In August 2014, Iggulden was one of 200 public figures who signed a letter to The Guardian, opposing Scottish independence in the run-up to September's referendum on that issue. I think for me, not having a thorough knowledge of this period, perhaps I wanted more detail about the characters and why they were choosing certain paths.

If all the incidences of this type of story fat were removed, the novel would be about 200 pages thinner. Nice and clean pages as new with two small nicks on the edges of the pages, light shelf wear on the Dj cover. How is it that England could field fifty thousand men for the battle of Towton in 1461, but was able to send only four thousand to prevent the loss of Normandy a dozen years earlier? When he wakes from his first bout of illness, he dismisses Richard Duke of York from being Lord Protector and reverses everything that Richard did.His previous two series, on Julius Caesar and on the Mongol Khans of Central Asia, describe the founding of the greatest empires of their day and were number one bestsellers. Derry Brewer is a unique and complex character who works in the shadow to make sure that his king and his country are well protected. They include Richard of York, descended on both sides from Edward III and father of the later Yorkist Kings, the reigning King - Henry VI and his wife Margret of Anjou, and the Neville family – including the man who would become known as the Kingmaker.Es un personaje que no me ha gustado, no he logrado empatizar con su "causa" y creo que era bastante hipócrita y contradictorio. It's a hopeless cause, of course, and it was interesting to see that little known part of the pre-Wars of the Roses period in a novel. King Henry VI has remained all but exiled in Windsor Castle, struck down by his illness for over a year, his eyes vacant, his mind a blank. Indeed, Henry VI decides to give up his lands in France, so the English settlers are forced to flee their homesteads from the incoming French.

The British author Conn Iggulden is largely known for his historical fiction, along with his fiction and fantasy novels as well. This book is so engaging and it keeps the reader wanting more, so he included a side story that is equally entertaining. It's a "light" type of plotting that doesn't care much for accuracy nor invests much in characterisation. This, for me, made the story quite strong because we got to see how the decisions made by the ruling class affected those in the ranks of the army.

Anyone who has met him will have experienced the presence he brings to a room, one i find he brings to the fore in the conqueror series more than the emperor one. These were a series of dynastic wars fought between supporters of two rival branches of the royal House of Plantagenet: the houses of Lancaster and York for the throne of England. That attack by Thomas Percy, Baron Egremont, was one of the most brutal actions in that private war, sparked by the marriage of Salisbury’s son to the niece of Ralph Cromwell, a union which placed estates claimed by the Percy family into Neville hands. His fears seem justified as English power comes under threat from France, and discontent and rebellion spread at home.
