It’s a largely joyous affair in which the author relishes his good fortune and all the ridiculous adventures he’s had. The shoemaker had a big box of Dalmatian puppies, and you could pick your own …’ It was the only time in my life I was smacked by a flight crew member. Otherwise, the dustjacket is clean The binding is very tight, and the interior is unmarked and in fine condition. I struggle to laugh even once during any comedy based programmes on nowadays, I just don't find most recent comics humorous, there are a few exceptions but they don't compare to that good old fashioned humour. Nevertheless, I found the book interesting and, having not particularly considered Billy's work prior to this, I am now a huge fan!

And the Parachute Regiment and working as a welder in the shipyards - after school, the church and family had all failed him - made him feel “like I belonged in the world, that I was no longer prey … I felt like a successful human, a man”.His own musical background - both as a solo artist and a member of The Humblebums - formed a fascination with the link between music and fashion, with Billy explaining: "Maracas were very popular in the 1950s and 60s to allow a signature look, and to leap around. His life is a seemingly infinite wellspring of incident, all of which he’s commendably frank and open about. And that was the hippie thing as well, just choosing your clothes, wearing policemen’s capes and big hats with snakeskin bands. Billy Connolly reflects on his career, his life, his family and the many remarkable people he has had the opportunity to meet.

Billy’s whistled out this pastiche of routines, recollections and ricochets (remember, he says the first thing that comes into his head.He discovers he has a gift for making people laugh through his storytelling, a skill he gets to practice on stage before and in between gigs as a banjo and guitar player. His wife, Pamela Stephenson, was one of my favorite characters on the TV show, 'Not the Nine O'Clock news. As with many people of a certain age, the pandemic provided the opportunity for reflection and the time to sit down and think about their lives.
