It changed my prayer life in several tangible ways, but I would not recommend this audiobook to anyone. Most of all, rediscover how Christ and the Spirit equip the saints for the work of the ministry—through prayer.

We know that to become a Christian we shouldn’t try to fix ourselves up, but when it comes to praying we completely forget that. The life of dependent prayer involves watching to see what the Lord will do in response to our prayers, and this enables us to see God's hand at work in our lives with greater clarity.Through personal stories and biblical examples, Miller teaches the why, what, and how of praying together. But, if like Jesus you realize you can't do life on your own, then no matter how busy,no matter how tired you are, you will find the time to pray. He reminds us to pray for others because we cannot get inside of their hearts, but we can allow our prayer for others to shape us.

This seems to me to directly conflict with the tone of the book’s first half, that we will find ourselves “slipping into continuous prayer,” but I’m glad for the inconsistency.Through personal stories and biblical examples, Miller teaches the why, what, and how of communal prayer. This handy, pocket-sized primer is an easy way to inspire someone who is new to prayer, or to reignite passion in someone who is stuck in attempts to develop a consistent prayer life.

But I read this book anyways (because I owed my wife) and I have been forced to rethink my prior position. My favorite quote from the whole book is this: “Learning to pray doesn’t offer us a less busy life; it offers us a less busy heart. When Jesus describes the intimacy He seeks with us, He talks about joining us for dinner (Revelation 3:20).

This all sounds really nice, and certainly there’s some truth there, but I find myself wondering where the Bible ever talks about the fruit of repentance being “authenticity.

I’ve read books about it and talked to friends about it, but there was always a disconnect between the idea of prayer (and now I realize my misconceptions about prayer) and the reality of a regular prayer life.

You are undoubtedly an authority on the subject but also someone who practices what he preaches as experienced through all the wonderful stories you have shared with me about your prayer work in the life of you and your family. I know how praying made a difference in the moment-by-moment of motherhood when they were younger, but now I feel a greater need to parent-through-prayer.
