And of course, Nick had to include some “collab” recipes from his famous friends like Andrew Zimmern, Robert Irvine, Joanne Chang, Lynja, and more. The instructions are simple, and DiGiovanni's light humor ("I'm convinced nuggets taste better in dinosaur form," he says of the dino chicken nuggets) and anecdotes ("My grandpa taught my brothers and me to catch blue crabs when we were little, so this dish always reminds me of him," he says of the crab and artichoke dip with Old Bay crostini) add charm. And I particularly like a book that combines some sophisticated classy recipes with some that are more comfort food.

MANUAL FOR KNIFE DROP COOKBOOK: The ultimate cookbook recipes

This wasn’t always true—not back when I was still obsessed with reading ~*serious things*~ like critical theory, Raymond Carver (still love him though), and jazz musician biographies, and certainly not when I tried to read all of Karl Ove Knausgaard’s My Struggle series (I failed have yet to succeed). Also the QR codes in the beginning with the videos, I feel like I'm watching the most informational tik toks I've ever seen. This book will help you master the best practices, and then hopefully give you enough confidence to break them yourself," promises MasterChef finalist DiGiovanni in his accessible debut. Building on a foundation of staple recipes such as basic pasta dough and homemade butter, Nick shares a mouth-watering selection of his favorite recipes including Custard Yogurt Toast, Grilled Peach Burrata Salad, Smoked Bacon Carbonara, and his signature Master Chef Chocolate Crack Pie. I explained the chemistry behind this to my son before doing it for the review and, as predicted, hot grease exploded all over my kitchen.I found a dangerous recipe, one that didn’t match the photo because the ingredients were clearly different, and one that was straight up nasty. Still, this month brought a colorful Indian street food extravaganza and the reissue of a book chronicling one man’s quest to create a bunch of truly wild veggie burgers. Margaret and Irene Li, authors of Double Awesome Chinese Food and co-founders of popular Boston dumpling and sandwich eatery Mei Mei, understand this.

Perfectly Good Food is a killer book to have on the shelf, whether it’s to look for recipes, get ideas for reorganizing your fridge, or figure out what to do with those dang carrot scraps. Carbona(ra)men- Dude asks you to cook 8 pieces of bacon, remove the bacon and leave ALL the hot fat, and dump 2 cups of water into it. Now let’s cut the maudlin bullshit, smash two beers over our heads like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, and get to the damn list of this month’s best cookbooks.Obviously everyone’s tastes are different so no cookbook ever manages to be 100% for anyone (except perhaps its own author), but this one is closer aligned to my tastes than most. DiGiovanni's clear passion for food will inspire home cooks of all levels to embark on their own culinary adventures. A new edition of 2019’s immensely popular food gardening guide, Veg in One Bed is the perfect volume for anyone interested in growing produce throughout the year. I don’t doubt that this guy is a great cook, but something went wrong with producing this cookbook in my opinion.
