It could be a PC or a Mac, or pretty much any type of laptop with a USB connection, but the thing is, you need the software that comes with the GT-001 to get the most out of it. Intonation is the measure of how in-tune the guitar string is across the length of the fretboard and a guitar with badly set intonation will get more and more out of tune as the string is shortened when you play. It’s easy to capture great amp and effects tones directly into your DAW, and four audio channels provide lots of flexibility for recording, re-amping, and mixing. The preamps have gain, level, EQ; the vibrato has rate and depth; things just make sense, if you’ve used the analogue equivalent, or even other DSP things.

It is monophonic (one note at a time), and it is quite slow : there is a notable delay between the time you hit the string and the emission of the midi note.

I’m not sure what’s going on there, and it means I cannot use the buttons on the unit for most things, but for me, this isn’t a problem, since the software on the PC does everything I want. At the moment I'm using a UR22mkII with reaper and amp sims, but this cool little Boss unit caught my eye recently.

If you’re looking to be able to apply FX to a guitar while also using a microphone at the same time, this is not the right product, unless you’re willing to supplement it with some other bits. The XLR mic input is equipped with phantom power, allowing you to use a condenser mic for top recording quality. Output level has its own knob, but for all other tweaks, four knobs adjust parameters shown in the display above them.The flexibility is nice-to-have here: you could connect a pedal that does nothing except control something elsewhere in the chain, like use a pedal for a wah control at one point and then switch it to control something else later, or, you could just link a regular old pedal that just controls itself.
