Description

Uses little or no oil – The fantastic Salter 8.2L dual cook pro air fryer is a healthy way to cook your favourite foods using little to no oil. First, we cut the potatoes into medium strips and soaked them in hot water for 5 minutes to remove excess starch. Once they were soaked, we removed them and dried them with a cloth so that they were dry before spraying them with olive oil spray (we used approximately 6-8 sprays). With over 15 fryers to choose from, we took the brand’s most popular air fryer – the EK4548 Dual – for a test drive. I’m also the type of person that likes to press buttons without instructions, but the Salter Dual Air Fryer has several auto cooking functions – like different meats, muffins, fish, chips, and vegetables – that will help you select the right temperature and time for your chosen dish. If you’re unsure of the buttons (and the little images they represent) and it’s too much choice, I recommend selecting manual cook and winging it with your own time and temperature. Always go lower and shorter than you need. Any negatives?

If you prefer to manually set the air fryer, you can. You simply need to select which side of the air fryer you want to use by tapping either ‘1’ or 2 and then selecting the ‘manual’ button. You can then set your desired temperature and time. One thing that was missing was an auto-switch-off function that turns the air fryer off once the food is cooked. We find this to be a godsend to avoid food from overcooking.

Instructions

With a 60 minute timer it ’s simple and convenient to use, this air fryer is complete with a stylish sensor touch control LED display and 12 cooking functions. A brilliant alternative to a deep fat frying, this 1600W air fryer has an adjustable temperature control up to 200°C and has two removable baskets for independent cooking Not only does an air fryer promise to cut down your cooking time, but it does so with as little need for oil as possible. So you can still achieve that deep-fried effect without the unhealthy aftertaste. Upping the game ahead of Christmas dinner, I tested out Brussels sprouts cooked with bacon. This time, too long meant they'd reduced to barely the size of a pea and were very crispy. By Christmas Day, I’d figured out the perfect cooking time of 10 minutes and they were plenty flavourful. Bacon is also a great meat to cook in the air fryer if you like it crispy, but a beefburger dried out and didn’t retain its moisture, so it was almost inedible.

Enjoy healthy alternative to deep frying with this versatile frying alternative. Salter 8.2L dual cook pro air fryer gives you the best of both worlds, allowing you to cook with little or no oil while still retaining plenty of flavour. An air fryer is essentially a small convection oven, circulating hot air around the food to get that crispy outer layer and fluffy or moist inside. It is also more energy-efficient due to its size and power, compared to heating your kitchen oven. Versatile– With adjustable temperature control as well as pause and resume cooking functions, cook a huge range of different foods.

Best alternatives:

When looking for the best air fryer, we usually buy from brands that we recognise. Salter is a trusted and popular kitchen appliance and cookwear brand, so it’s no surprise that they’ve entered the air fryer game and launched an entire air fryer range. In use, this fryer is reasonably versatile, producing decent results across a range of foods. I used it first to cook frozen chips and Quorn nuggets. The latter were perfect, but the former could have done with more crisping, despite having had 20 minutes at the maximum 200℃. As I couldn’t raise the temperature, I cooked further batches a little longer, and was rewarded with better results. Some other foods were less impressive. I couldn’t get frozen hash browns to crisp up quite as much as I wanted, for example. Doubtless the limited top temperature is partly to blame here, but I did get perfect results from the Proscenic T22, which only goes 5℃ hotter. And while corn on the cob was fine, it wasn’t browned evenly and as deliciously caramelised as you might get from a grill. Still, it did a good job when cooking Quorn sausages from frozen. It’s a proper piece of kit, with a full touchscreen LED display filled with buttons, which is almost intimidating. But thankfully the instructions are thorough and talk you through each of the functions and buttons.

Salter Dual Air review Review | Trusted Reviews

There are 12 preset functions for specific foods, as well as manual settings. The majority of the presets are aimed at cooking meat and fish, but the other functions include chips, desserts, vegetables, reheating, and dehydrating. Perhaps we added too many into one basket, but we had to cook the chips for longer than the recommended preset time, in fact, it was almost double the amount of time (just under 30 minutes total cooking time). But once the chips had cooked they were fluffy on the inside and crispy and golden on the outside. A great achievement considering we used very little oil, making this a healthier alternative to traditional fried chips. I did find this to be slightly temperamental. Sometimes there was a slight delay when hitting the buttons, which meant I had to adjust the temperature and time several times before reaching the correct figures. Finally, we put the chips into the preheated air fryer and cooked them on the ‘chips’ preset at 200 degrees for 15 minutes. With an impressive 8.2 litre capacity across the two drawers, this air fryer offers multifunctional cooking abilities including dehydrating, reheating, and baking. As well as independent cooking, you can sync and match cook so that both cooking compartments are ready at the same time.Just as I found with the Ninja Foodi Dual Zone, you’re likely to use the Dual Air’s sync mode a lot when preparing a meal. It’s extremely helpful to dial up two different programmes, then just start the Dual Air running and have it deliver everything ready at the same time. Sometimes you’ll want greater flexibility, though, and this fryer offers it. You can essentially programme each side completely independently of the other. For example, you could bake for 40 minutes in tray two, while you cook a series of other foods in tray one. Like the Ninja Foodi Dual Zone, the Dual Air offers a choice of combined or independent control of its two baskets. By default, you can programme a temperature and time for each, then both will start at the same time. In Sync mode, the longer programme gets a head start so that both sides finish cooking at the same time. Finally, Match Cook mode sets both sides to cook with the same settings, which is useful if you just want to cook lots of the same thing. Performance Kitchen countertop space is a precious commodity, so if you’re considering the Salter Dual Air Fryer, be aware of how much space it takes up. It measures 40cm in length, 36.1cm in width, and 32cm in height – that is bigger than your average four-slice toaster. If you already have a microwave, kettle, toaster and perhaps a food blender, you may have to think about where your air fryer will go, or do you have cupboard space for it? Match cook’ sets both cooking compartments to the temperature and time if you’re cooking the same food across both baskets. This is handy if you’ve got lots of friends coming around and want to cook up large portions of food without the need to batch cook.

Salter Dual Cook Pro air fryer review - Reviews | BBC Good Food

There’s another catch that’s more specific to this fryer. While the Ninja Foodi Dual Zone goes up to 240℃ in its Max Crisp mode, the Dual Air tops out at a rather modest 200℃. That’s plenty for many dishes but, as my tests confirmed, it’s a little gutless for getting the best browning on chips and other items that need a really good crisping or searing. Out of the box, I was taken away by the size of the Salter EK4548 Dual Air Fryer. I was slightly worried that it wouldn’t fit between my kitchen counter and cupboards, but it ended up being ok. It’s a consideration for a smaller kitchen, though. Each preset automatically sets the time and temperature depending on the food. Additionally, the instructions detail the preset functions’ temperatures and times to give you a recommendation for each of the foods. We were big fans of the dual drawers and the freedom to cook different foods at different temperatures. Although we had to wait slightly longer for the chips to be cooked, we were willing to look past that and overall were pleased with the speed and quality that it cooked the food. Although it may seem basic, we wanted to put the salter air fryer to the test to cook the humble chip. As one of the most popular foods to cook in an air fryer, we wanted to see if the EK4548 could deliver crispy golden chips only using a small amount of oil.

The Dual Air did a marvellous job of roasting some new potatoes to produce rough and ready homemade wedges. I simply cut them in half, tossed them in olive oil, and cooked them at full power for 18 minutes – my children loved the end result. Potatoes and sweetcorn by Salter Dual Air. Sausages cooked in Salter Aerogrill This innovative air fryer is ideal for home-made chips or wedges as well as meat, spring rolls, stuffed vegetables and quiche, it can cook a huge variety of foods. Features and Benefits Not only is it a stylish piece of kit, but its multi-functional cooking capability makes cooking simple. We know that the size and the price of the air fryer may be the deciding factor for many. If you live on your own or have a smaller family, the EK4548 may be considered excessive. Additionally, if your kitchen counter size is limited, this could be impractical.
