The novel tells the story of where we hear the private thoughts of more characters which definitely gives a wider range of viewpoints, allowing me to visualize the moments and paint in some of the finer details of what surrounded the scenes and setting real, flawed characters. This book was much better than I expected and if there was another book in this genre available from this author I would look for ward to reading it. Noël's first historic romance, "The Substitute Bride" (2017) features an arranged marriage with a twist: identity swap. Noël's second historic romance, also with an authentic Regency setting, is "Teaching His Ward" (2019). Elizabeth Cosgrove, or Betsy, has fallen in love during her very first season. So in love is she that Betsy puts her trust and future in the hands of Mr. Tom Farthington, heir of the Marquess of Westford. But when word breaks out, Mr. Farthington runs for the continent at the first hint of scandal and away from the expectations to make an offer for Besty, leaving her disgraced and in ruin. The Marquess, who has never been inclined to marry, feels that he must make amends for his cousin's actions and wed the young woman himself to save her from disgrace and give her the protection of his name. Her relationship with her parents is ruined by her actions and so they demand that she will marry the Marquess, whether she wishes it or no. What the author (and the publisher) were thinking when they wrote/edited this ungodly mess, is utterly beyond me. After hanging up the phone, Wendy went to see Autumn.
