Let me report my experience, starting with a Playseat Challenge, then switching to a more solid Raceroom Rig and finally ending at a super-solid Simlab-like aluminium-profile rig with a CSL at first, a DD1 and now DD2: There was a considerable amount of collaboration on this product to make the Challenge X more functional, comfortable and overall, a better racing experience, than traditional desktop gaming chairs. During that process our teams focused on three key areas of a sim racing chair and we couldn’t be more happy with the results.” said Jim Hoey, head of simulation marketing at Logitech G. Equipped with gearshift mount, allowing you to upgrade your race experience with the Logitech G Driving Force Shifter. I’ve seen people online complaining that their elbows keep rubbing against these straps when driving. I haven’t had that problem, but this style is a compromise. And it’s not the only solution. The cheaper ADX Firebase CC223 uses rigid poles, more like the arms of a chair. The Next Level Racing GTLite has a more advanced frame design, with securing mechanisms throughout, rather than relying on velcro. Playseat Challenge strap

LAUSANNE, Switzerland & SAN JOSE , Calif., – Sept. 26, 2023 – Today, Logitech G, a brand of Logitech (SIX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOG), and Playseat introduced the newest sim racing chair, the Playseat Challenge X – Logitech G Edition. Designed for Logitech G racing wheel and pedals, this new chair is a lightweight, foldable carbon steel frame and features a fully adjustable seat with Playseat’s Actifit™️ breathable materials, providing sim racers with a racing chair that delivers exceptional comfort, versatility, durability and the performance needed to stay fully immersed in the race. However, I find this feels precarious if you have a heavier racing wheelbase. It starts to feel like mounting a gigantic camera zoom lens onto a tiny camera body. The Playseat Challenge X – Logitech G Edition features three new enhanced upgrades, including X-Adapt™ seat adjustments, ActiFit™️ breathable material and a hard mounted pedal plate with tilt positioning. The new Playseat Challenge X – Logitech G Edition features: This rig comes with a wheel and pedal mount, and they’re designed to offer a decent amount of adjustability. However, the real star of the show is the comfortable racing seat you get with this rig. It’s not in the same low profile position as the Playseat Challenge, but this makes it more versatile for other forms of racing. All in all, this makes the Playseat Evolution massively accessible to all Sim Racers working on a budget. For those just getting started, though, it can be a little daunting, and the Next Level Challenger is a perfect entry point into the world of sim racing. It's simple, comfortable, doesn't take up much space, and with the option of an integrated monitor mount, you can have a complete little setup without needing acres of space in your room. The Challenge is Playseat’s most approachable and practical racing seat for the average gamer. It’s the cheapest in the line-up too.

When you come to store the Playseat Challenge away, this pedal mount part flips up to lie more-or-less flat with the main part of the frame.I tried both the Thrustmaster T-LCM, which work great, and the C. These are not well-suited to the Challenge as the Fanatec’s rubber feet don’t properly line up with the slim foam cover of the pedal stand here, and the pedal set does not have a flat base. And if you plan on using a powerful load cell brake, you will likely want to get something more substantial either way.

It takes no effort to do. There's nothing more than a simple scissor action that folds the whole thing together. It's about 5.5 feet tall when closed, but that's a whole lot more manageable than having it permanently occupy your front room. Given you might assume this is a “weedy” racing wheel seat, I’ve been impressed by how sturdy it feels as you actually drive. While there’s more flex if you drive under pressure, you’re generally moving along with it thanks to the frame design. It’s much less distracting than the “wobble” of a stand where the wheel is held up using a column sat between your legs. These are things you might want to keep in mind if you’re shopping on a tight budget, especially if you want to save against spending more than necessary to upgrade your setup in the future. How much should I spend on a Sim Racing Rig?

You can only adjust the angle of the wheel independently, not its distance from you or its height. It sits on a plastic ratcheting system that lets you alter the angle quite dynamically. This seems a bold choice on Playseat’s part when the simplicity of the frame design seems to be here to maximise structural integrity. It works fine, but does introduce some up-down flexion that otherwise would not be here. Your wheel attaches to a plate that folds up and down. Up lets you get in and out of the seat, and when it's down it sits across your knees at chest height. There's no stretching of arms to be done, you're very compact, and the whole experience is pleasing. At first glance, the Playseat Challenge doesn't scream comfort. Compared to a number of other racing chairs, even those like the Evolution we previously looked at from the same manufacturer, it looks a bit odd. Instead of sitting bolt upright, you sink into the seat. But it works. It really does. The metal frame has a free-twisting hinge at its middle, and Playseat uses a series of chunky velcro pads to both attach the seat part and stop the whole thing from collapsing to the floor. See those almost armrest-like parts to each side? They are heavy-duty velcro pads that hold the chair up.

Are you hoping that your rig will hold a Direct Drive or hydraulic pedals once you’re ready to make the step up? Make sure there is sufficient padding and that the height and angle of the seat (and all mounts) is adjustable. If it’s not all that adjustable, then at least make sure its standard dimensions are suitable for your own. Affordability

Product Reviews

Note: This seat suffers from the same wheel mount issue as the Playseat Evolution, as the post can get in the way of the pedals. It’s also more expensive, making the Evolution a better choice for those on a budget. Buying a rig is one of the most important parts to complete your set ups and most of the time people do overlook this piece of equipment, usually spending all of their money on a top of the line wheel base, rim and pedals. It’s designed to stop you getting sweaty, although I’d recommend the Alcantara version if you want a more luxurious feel. In either, you get racing seat-like cut-outs towards the top of the seat, which look the part and are cushioned. Playseat pedal interface
