Audio Technica claims their range is a very respectable 10m, it meant I could wander into another room and still be connected. However, the Sennheiser model does offer thicker padding and the ability to use your headphones with higher-quality codecs like aptX and aptX Low Latency.

I was told I sounded a little on the quiet side and the recipient could also hear a fair amount of background noise, but they could still hear and understand what I said.In other words, you get a matte black headset that looks very unobtrusive, the only decoration being a silver “Audio-Technica” logo on the headband. The Audio-Technica ATH-M20XBT is for all intents and purposes an exact copy of the older cans—just with a Bluetooth radio, battery, and microphone shoved into it, so there’s not a lot of bells and whistles to talk about here. While it may be basic, I liked the fact that these have physical buttons because they work more effectively and more consistently than the touch panels on some other cheaper headphones.

The Audio-Technica M20xBT are the wireless version of the entry-level model in the popular ATH Mx series of headphones. This Bluetooth-enabled headset delivers an exceptional listening encounter with comprehensive, high-fidelity sound and enhanced bass. The lack of any EQ options also means you must stick with the default sound signature, though as we explain below, it's excellent.

I came out to the front porch with my smartphone charging in the back room and didn’t experience any dropout.

You can pair the Audio-Technica ATH-M20XBT to your computer or phone with fairly typical steps, though the process is anything but convenient. It’s just gravy that this product has part replacement options on the cheap, and is very utilitarian from the perspective of the 2020s. We were skeptical that the ATH-M20xBT headphones could live up to their stated frequency range (particularly at the low end), but they deliver some serious sub-bass rumble. Looking at reviews on Google Play, I’m not the only person to experience this issue, which is a shame as it means you’re often locked out of being able to play around with handy features.Audio Technica says that they have ‘studio sound’ and while there's definitely room for improvement, I’d be inclined to agree with that. Importantly, if there’s deep bass in your track, you can hear all of it, just not to an exaggerated extent. Almost every headphone we test is checked by us: In addition to determining the frequency response, the heart of our measurements, we also evaluate the effects of noise that penetrates from the outside to the inside.
