At least for an instance I thought I’m going to die, drowning in a dark sunken cave. It felt like a timeless moment, it was 1000 years long and a millisecond at the same time.. I tried to use my nails, to hold into the floor to avoid falling into the hole, but that didn’t work. And of course, I’m not gonna say what happened after that :P Many people believe in life after death due to religious teachings or personal experiences. Others are more skeptical of the idea that consciousness continues after we die. No matter which category you fall into, reading about life after death can offer valuable insights on the topic of death. I think that is what she described...? Again, the language was way too out there for me to take seriously and though she implores us to keep an open mind and not be cynical or overly critical, I guess I am not there yet. When someone explains leaving their physical body at the speed of light and traveling around, and then later experiencing the pain of a thousands deaths from a thousand dying patients - well, I just can't. I don't believe it and even if I am able to better tap into whatever spirituality may exist within me, I highly doubt I ever will. To me, that's magic (and maybe shrooms?) - not spirituality. After seven days in the meadow, the souls and Er were required to travel farther. After four days they reached a place where they could see a shaft of rainbow light brighter than any they had seen before. After another day's travel they reached it. This was the Spindle of Necessity. Several women, including Lady Necessity, her daughters, and the Sirens were present. The souls – except for Er – were then organized into rows and were each given a lottery token.

The brain by itself can't control these functions. But, the mind is also what makes us aware of our consciousness and holds what we do and why. In recent years, scientific research has found a connection that shows that the mind continues to have activity beyond clinical death. 8. Soul substance might have weight For many Buddhists, death isn’t seen as an end, but rather a continuation. We believe you go from life to life, so this can help Buddhists move away from a fear of death, and instead see it as just another part of their journey which they must take.Annie Kagan isn’t a medium, but she has communicated with the dead: her deceased brother, Billy. In The Afterlife of Billy Fingers , Annie shares the true story of how her brother started speaking with her, weeks after his untimely death. Deepal Chopra is basically "Pop Eastern Mysticism". This isn't some ancient text from Buddhists who lived thousands of years ago, but as a newbie to world religions, it helped me grasp the concepts of Eastern philosophies like Vedanta. I don't know much about reincarnation, universal consciousness, or astral planes, so this book helped give a brief overview of the many thoughts on the subjects. Fourteen-year-old Susie Salmon is already in the afterlife when we first meet her. She mysteriously disappeared in 1973, and her story hasn’t yet come to light.

What happens when we die? – KS3 Religious Studies – BBC

At just under four years old, Colton describes how he left his body during surgery. He’s able to explain exactly what his parents were doing in another room of the hospital. This book introduced concepts you’ll probably find familiar: the bright light, the tunnel, and the idea that loved ones wait for us on the other side. In life, symbolically speaking, we are thrown into a tumbler like a stone and it is up to us if we come out polished or crushed. The first half of the book was interesting. It actually gave words to my feelings & thoughts. With that being said it was extremely repetitive. He could have written that portion in less than half the text he did.

Life after Death according to Deepak Chopra didn't really tell me anything I didn't know already, which either means his thesis empty or it's preaching to the converted. Probably the latter. The above heading is another way of describing an NDE. This is where it gets a bit complicated. There's a difference between the brain, an organ in our body, and our mind, separate from the brain. The brain is the physical home of the mind. The mind controls our perceptions, thoughts, emotions, memories, determinations, and imaginations. In general, the people who are waiting for us on the other side are the ones who loved us the most. You always meet those people first. 15Most religious people agree that death is not the end, but many have different ideas about what happens after life. Christians and Muslims generally believe that when they die God judges them and their souls go to a place of reward or punishment . Most Muslims believe that we have just one life on earth and at some point in the future there'll be a judgment day when everyone will stand before God. Good people will go to paradise, or Jannah in Arabic, to be rewarded and bad people will go to hell, or Jahannam, to be punished. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, M.D. was a Swiss-born psychiatrist, a pioneer in near-death studies and the author of the groundbreaking book On Death and Dying (1969), where she first discussed what is now known as the Kübler-Ross model. In this work she proposed the now famous Five Stages of Grief as a pattern of adjustment. These five stages of grief are denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. In general, individuals experience most of these stages, though in no defined sequence, after being faced with the reality of their impending death. The five stages have since been adopted by many as applying to the survivors of a loved one’s death, as well. The book is full of mysticism. The author takes seriously events where when thinking of someone then suddenly we find him by coincidence in front of us. To me it’s a mathematical non-zero chance of occurrence, especially since we only notice such ones only when they work (we have multiple false hunches throughout the day, but we register only the ones that score, which leads to us thinking we have precise hunches). To her (and to many females I know, and a male poet), it’s Destiny trying to tell us something.
