On July 7th, 1975, two Murphysboro men reported a sighting of a strange creature that they believed may have been the Big Muddy Monster near a pond in the Harrison community, north of Murphysboro. Needless to say these isolated events in no way compared to the tremendous flap of encounters that had plagued the community in the summer of ’73. Perhaps Police Chief Berger put it most succinctly when he said: “A lot of things in life are unexplained, and this is another one. We don’t know what the creature is, but we do believe what these people saw was real.” Wadjet • Waitoreke • Wakwak • Walker County Creature • Wallowa Lake Freshwater Crustaceans • Wallowa Lake Monster • Wampus Beast • Wanderlight • Wapaloosie • Waqwaq • Wasaga Beach Seal Monster • Washington's Eagle • Washoriwe • Water Elephant • Waterford Sheepman • Weeping Date Palm • Wendigo • Werehyena • Weretiger • Werewolf • Werewolves • West Virginian Yahoo • Whale Eater • White Death • White River Monster • White Things (Devil Dogs) • Wild Haggis • Wolpertinger • Wood Booger • Woodwose • Woolly Mammoth • Wucharia • Wuhnan Toads • Wyvern

In the anime, Zamasu receives a face full of a full-powered Kamehameha from Goku after an intense beam clash, reducing half of his body to a gooey purple substance that cannot properly regenerate. After snapping and striking himself with his own power, that half becomes a bloated gooey mess which still serves as an adequate bludgeoning weapon.

Numerous theories attempt to explain the origins of the Big Muddy Monster legend. Some believe it could be a surviving population of an undiscovered primate species or an ancient creature that has managed to remain hidden from scientific scrutiny. The Gargoyle's Quest game Demon's Crest has the boss "Crawler", a huge mass of melted-looking flesh that takes on a semi-humanoid form after it swallows some bones. It can spawn zombie-like creatures from its body. Eilis of Shinzo is a liquid metal variation of this.
