during "Slates, Slags, etc.")- "This is for the city of Rhodes [roads?]. Trapped in the web. Help me! Help me!" (City Hobgoblins) One of the first times Wings was played live. The early 1982 version was faster and had a different guitar part than the studio version (and wasn't nearly as good, although some disagree.) The Hanley/Burns/Riley line-up play with precision and abandon, sympathetic to Smith at his most scathing and brilliant. Personally I disagree with Mark E’s assertion (in retrospect) that this was the first time he was “At a point where I knew I was alone with my ideas”. How could Smith take credit for those bass-lines and playing?

Yells] "Come on, wake up! WAKE UP!" (before "I'm into C.B." as the tape starts before the band does) I've had a look at some of the industry press and the Financial Times of 1982 - he wasn't mentioned that I could find, so I wonder how likely he would have been to come to MES' notice at that point anyway. was a decisive year for The Fall. Their critically acclaimed album “Hex Enduction Hour” was released in March on Kamera Records, closely followed by “Room To Live” in September.First associated with the late 1970s punk movement, the Fall's music underwent numerous stylistic changes, often concurrently with changes in the group's lineup. Nonetheless, their music has generally been characterised by an abrasive, repetitive guitar-driven sound, tense bass and drum rhythms, and Smith's caustic lyrics, [4] described by critic Simon Reynolds as "a kind of Northern English magic realism that mixed industrial grime with the unearthly and uncanny," voiced through a "one-note delivery somewhere between amphetamine-spiked rant and alcohol-addled yarn." [5] While the Fall never achieved widespread success beyond minor hit singles in the late 1980s and early 1990s, they have maintained a strong cult following.

On 30 July 1979, " Rowche Rumble", the Fall's third single, was released featuring the line up of Smith, Scanlon, Riley, Hanley, Pawlett and Leigh. Pawlett left the group shortly afterwards. Dragnet, the Fall's second album, was recorded in August 1979 at Cargo Studios, Rochdale, and was released on 26 October 1979. Dragnet signalled a sparser, more jagged feel in the Fall's music compared to Live at the Witch Trials. The studio allegedly complained about the sound quality and protested against putting its name on the album sleeve, fearing it would put other artists off using the facilities. This six-disc boxset brings together those two classic albums alongside a host of John Peel sessions, Kamera singles, live performances and the group’s live album “In A Hole”, recorded during their tour of New Zealand and originally released on Flying Nun Records. The university SU had the use of it on Saturdays which they (and hardly anyone else) named "The Downtown Kampus". My memory is that The Fall were brief but went down a storm. There were somepretty decent photos taken - live and also a posed group shot in the train station - I was doing a fanzine at the time. Photographer was Ciaran O Tuama."

Live in London 1980 is a live album by the Fall, released in 1982 on cassette on the Chaos Tapes label. There are many – including Smith’s first wife, Brix – who believe the Fall frontman has the psychic powers of a seer or prophet, and they certainly seem in evidence here. Fifteen years before most of us would even hear of the internet, Smith seems to fortell how social media will imprison the demoralised worker: “Became a recluse / And bought a computer … On the screen /Saw the Holy Ghost, I swear / On the screen / Where’s the cursor?” Dave Simpson– The Fallen". Reviews

Chaos Tapes was a short-lived imprint, specialising in live material by established punk artists and releasing exclusively on the cassette format; the inner sleeve of this release advertised previous releases by the likes of Anti-Pasti, Discharge, Vice Squad, Chelsea and G.B.H. Reissues [ edit ] Also, a Dutch weekly newspaper covering 19-25 June lists a band called Flavium on this night. It doesn't rule out the possibility of The Fall replacing Flavium at the last minute.
