I felt this topic could have played a bigger part with more detail but the "electricity" in the title actually referred to Charlotte's psyche as she branches into work as a medium.

I don't know how this book got on my to-read list, and I don't know why I finished it, other than the need to see it come out with a happy ending. This short book engaged my interest and really transported me to the people and beginning times of electrical lights in London, England. It's not the course handbook (there are many) and doesn't have any heavy math (aside from a few descriptive relationships) but it does a helicopter overview of the concepts that would be covered in a course that is fundemental to both electrical (grid | household | industrial) and electronic (circuits, sensors, computers) engineering. This book, which as a medical doctor I found hard to put down, explores the relationship between electricity and life from beginning to end: from the early eighteenth century to today, and from the point of view of the physician, the physicist, and the average person in the street. For a good high level overview of the grid, along with other civil engineering topics, Grady Hillhouse's "Engineering in Plain Sight" is good. Arthur Firstenberg is a scientist and journalist who is at the forefront of a global movement to tear down the taboo surrounding this subject. If you are like I was and you are relatively clueless and ignorant about electricity then this is a highly recommended and concise read that will help you and inform you. Knittel, Chloé Le Coq, Thomas-Olivier Léautier, Stephen Littlechild, Nils May, Kostantinos Metaxoglou, Divyam Nagpal, Karsten Neuhoff, David Newbery, Shmuel S. Fun bits of trivia, sidebars, and jokes help "charge" up young readers to explore the force that can be found everywhere-from inside their bodies to the animal world to the sky above them.

Firstenberg has done just that with one of the most pressing but neglected problems of our technological age. With 25 Great Projects - Discover the History and Science of this Powerful Resource Explore Electricity! I'm no expert in electronics, so I don't have enough confidence to make a statement about the competency of Scherz, but your assessment seems hyperbolic. Perfect for inquiring young minds, the activities in this kit are fun and educational, providing a strong introduction to the wonders of science. The book also considers new emerging business models, as well as the impact of electricity sector policy priorities such as universal access and deep decarbonization. It could be read in 2 or 3 dedicated sessions, and comes with all sorts of interesting circuits to build up to really kickstart that intuition. Projects include making a simple motor, as well as creating and experimenting with an electromagnet. Electricity is part of our modern-day lives in ways that Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison could never have imagined. It's not like you can go "nah, those local electrical standards are to expensive, I'll use the ones from Pakistan instead".
