And I began wondering how many of them had private gynaecologists or private GPs or waited 20 weeks to see an NHS specialist only to have the appointment postponed. Frostrup and her fellow crusaders, who are “real women, campaigners, politicians, menopause experts, celebrities and journalists”, are aiming to increase pressure on the UK government to improve access to hormone replacement therapy and promote greater understanding of the impact of menopause. And one thing I’ve found in MenoLand is that anecdote and feelings are quite often read as “data” so there is a clear difference here. Normally I avoid books about health written by journalists where they share their personal experiences.

When the menopause hit I thought he was having affairs I was paranoid hot flushes cold flushed and with all that no sleep. I'm not sure how you can shoe-horn political views into a book about menopause but she can't go a paragraph without doing so. It then began to lose its way a little and became much more of her own particular experience of the menopause and whilst that was helpful in understanding more about her particular issues insomnia, hot flushes and brain fog, there was less space for understanding the other numerous symptoms although some are mentioned, I would have welcomed an equally deep exploration of the full range of symptoms.uk, the publisher and Mariella Frostrup and Alice Smellie for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I remember going through menopause and thinking, wtf how does every woman go through this at some point in their life, I wasn't even 30 years old yet.

This enlightening audiobook is passionately narrated by the authors, Mariella Frostrup with Alice Smellie. I couldn't sleep at night due to waking constantly with my bed drenched in sweat and feeling like I was going to spontaneously combust.

I also disagree with her approach to the changes in her weight, where she said that diets don't work 'because women don't stick to them' as if women are the problem when there is vast evidence to show that diets don't work because they are designed to fail. The author doesn't shy away from discussing the nitty-gritty of symptoms and emotional roller coasters, making you feel seen and understood. Mariella Frostrup has done much over recent years to try and bust some myths around the perimenopause and the menopause. Gunter, who also wrote The Vagina Bible, was not placated by Frostrup’s suggestion they were waging the same war. As a 56 year old black woman it made me feel so relieved that the bad experiences I had with my GP refusing me HRT back in 2017 because she wasn't a fan and did not know much about it, then she subsequently printed of some correspondence and about alternative treatments, ie sage tablets, black cohosh, etc, none of these worked and I suffered on.
