Description

A great dog training book that imparts a lot of practical knowledge in a fun, wholesome and humorous way. I listened to it on Audible which brought the added benefit of the writer's excellent British accent, so I would recommend that option to fans of audiobooks. There are really only ever going to be two reasons why your puppy won’t do what you’ve asked: 1. They don’t understand what you’ve asked them to do. 2. They’re not motivated enough to do it. Thank God, dominance theory has now been thoroughly debunked and, in this marvellous training guide, the reader is taught to be their dog’s good and responsible friend, as well as the source of all joy. A happy dog, just as a happy person, is much more likely to take in information than a terrified dog. Steve Mann has a pretty impressive record when it comes to dogs; he has worked with thousands of dogs in many different areas and he is the founder of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers, so I think he knows about dogs.

At this stage, I’m guessing you know it’s me writing this so I’ll drop the 3 rd party ‘Steve this..’ and Steve that..’, like I’m some important celebrity or awards presenter about to introduce myself onto the stage…!) I started to teach other dog trainers, which lead to the foundation of The IMDT, so I could teach thousands of Trainers to reach thousands more dogs but that wasn’t enough, so…. Steve’s philosophy is largely based on his view that there are really only two reasons why your puppy won’t do what you want it to do:Whether you're living with a brand-new puppy, an adult dog or rescue dog, my methods will give you everything you need to know. I do like the training tips in the book but, as I had previously bought it’s predecessor, I found much of this book simply reiterated what had been said in “ Easy Peasy Puppy Squeezy” which is an excellent book all round. So, as is my way, I have immediately bought and read a load of books about dogs. Oh, maybe not a load, but I have bought two for myself and two for my girls. And yes, I have read them all already. Control puppy’s environment and you will mitigate the possibility of an unwanted behaviour occurring. Did puppy chew your shoes? That was your fault for leaving your shoes and puppy unattended! The key is to surround puppy with ‘legal’ chew toys and never leave puppy alone if they’re in an environment that contains ‘illegal’ chew toys. Steve is brilliant ... my puppy-training prophet and spiritual guide. His approach makes perfect sense. * Adrian Chiles, The Guardian *Steve teaches you how to organise a dog’s environment to avoid mishaps, how to deliver a ‘cue’ and ‘mark’ good behaviour followed by positive reinforcement and how to practise core exercises that most dog owners will want to teach for a safe and happy dog. Steve Mann’s love for dogs radiates throughout the book and every training exercise, every case study and every memory I read just made me feel more excited to finally bring my puppy home (she’s called Rosie 🐶). As a complete doggy novice, it was important that I read a book that explained the fundamentals in dog training and I’m so glad that I chose this one. The author’s whole philosophy is based on positive reinforcement and teaching your new friend the behaviours that you want them to exhibit, not just stopping them from doing things by screaming their name or yelling “NO!”. This book is all about getting to grips with a puppy and covers the typical puppy behaviours from toilet training, to nipping and jumping up; as well as helpful behaviour such as sit, nose touch and loose lead walking. Mann uses an entirely positive reward approach which encourages a strong relationship between puppy and owner. It is all about encouraging puppy to do what you want them to do and giving no attention to behaviour you don’t want to see. Whilst what Mann was saying made sense and I’m sure his methods encourage your puppy to be an angel, they did seem to be quite simplified, whereas in practice people will probably need more support. I’m guessing like me you’re a bit of a dog nut so fingers crossed you’ve come to the right place. Here you’ll find lots of information about my dog training books & podcast, an opportunity to take a few exciting new online classes with me, an area for you to get a little Easy Peasy retail therapy and details of how to book a one-to-one training session with me for you and your dog.

Easy Peasy Doggy Squeezy By Steve Mann |The Works

Learn crucial exercises such as RECALL and LOOSE LEAD WALKING, insights into BODY LANGUAGE, fun ideas to enjoy relaxing with your dog, as well as ways to help with problem behaviours such as SEPARATION ANXIETY, FEAR OF FIREWORKS and AGGRESSION TOWARDS STRANGERS - all covered in an easy-to-follow and fun style. I’m really excited to announce my Easy Peasy Awesome Pawsome Dog Training For Kids book which is due for release July 2021. It’s exactly the book I wish I had available to me ( to the tune of ‘I believe that children are the future..’) when I was a kid. I started my own club, then another, then another, to reach more dogs. But that wasn’t enough, so….My name's Steve Mann and I've been a professional dog trainer and behaviourist for over 30 years . As founder of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers, I've helped transform the lives of over 100,000 dogs and their families - and now I want to help you, too! An excellent and encouraging book that emphasises the importance of teaching your puppy positive behaviour and enjoying being with you without constantly telling the owner off (Ian Dunbar, I’m looking at you...) This book is all about delivering positive reinforcement (aka giving something puppy loves) in exchange for the puppy behaviours we want more of. We do this by delivering a ‘cue’ (asking puppy to perform a certain behaviour), ‘marking’ the behaviour (by saying “good!”) and then ‘reinforcing’ the behaviour through super delicious treats!

When it comes to dog training, there is no 'one size fits all' solution. In Easy Peasy Doggy Squeezy , Steve's seven active ingredients will teach you how to solve any problem behaviours by giving you the tools you need to ask the right questions. You'll discover step-by-step guides on how to teach the most useful and practical techniques and improve your life with your dog by following simple exercises as well as more advanced training techniques and ideas. A good deal of what follows is centred around bribery (treats) and repetition. In truth, most of what it is common sense but nonetheless I found it helpful to see it spelt out. It’s too early to tell whether the wisdom we’ve absorbed will make a significant difference to our journey, but my senses say it will certainly help. Learn crucial exercises such as recall and loose lead walking as well as ways to help with problem behaviours such as separation anxiety, fear of fireworks and aggression towards strangers - all covered in an easy-to-follow and fun style. Some of his tips were very known to me, but there were things I learnt and helped, but alas I just happen to have a very difficult pup - well now an almost adult dog and he likes to push all my buttons no matter what I do, all of the advice in the book didn't work for my boisterous teenager but a lot did so it wasn't all a loss. I still have a long, long way to go with my rebellious teenage dog (and now his rebellious baby brother) but we will get there. I still read this book for my second pup and incredibly where the tips didn't work for dog one, they work for dog two. Weird, right?! The writing style of the book is very relaxed and easy to read and there is a lot of humour. This all makes the book enjoyable to read. I would definitely recommend this book for puppy owners. Typically when you search ‘best book about X’ there are reams and reams of listicles that corroborate each other; usually leaving you with one or two front runners in the particular subject area you’re interested in. When I searched ‘best book for new dog owners’ and ‘best dog training book’ I couldn’t find a definitive winner. After scouring the web for a while I came across Easy Peasy Puppy Squeezy which purported to be ‘The UK’s No.1 Dog Training Book’, but it wasn’t this marketing slogan that sold it for me, it was the more endearing, ‘Your simple step-by-step guide to raising and training a happy puppy’. A happy puppy. Isn’t that what we all really want from a dog? Any prospective dog owners, especially those who haven’t trained a dog before. Reading this before you bring your puppy home will ensure you don’t get into bad habits like using your new puppy’s name in a negative manner or focusing on punishments rather than positive reinforcement.
